Depression And Adolescents

Depression is a medical illness, often caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. Simply stated, the brain ceases to function normally. If you have never been there, you cannot understand the impact on a child. Often, the child cannot explain or describe the pain. It is easy for adults to identify simple flu symptoms or broken bones in adolescents, but not always easy to identify symptoms of more serious illnesses.

For parents, teachers, and all associated with youth programs: be aware! Depression does not mean a young person is crazy. It means they are in need of medical attention. Watch for symptoms:
